INTERIOR CONSTRUCTION Though the beautiful interior woods and cabinetry appear for all the world to be throwbacks to the great renaissance period of European furniture and in fact they are at least equal in quality of joinery, grain matching and detailing, below the lovely veneers and corner posts selected for grain detail lies a structure as modern as can be imagined. That in itself is a significant statement, in that everyone at Marlow is encouraged to imagine and to think outside yesterdays confining box.
In fact, the underlying structure of the lovely cabinetry is strong enough for a 250 pound human to sit upon without distortion yet weighs less than 1/2 pound per square foot. Were it to be made of common plywood, covered with wood sheathing, as is the industry standard, the weight would be more than triple that with considerably less strength. The underlying reinforcement panel resembles plastic soda straws, stacked and glued together to form honeycomb cells. These cells are cut to the thickness required and covered on all sides with lovely grain matched veneers of Andes Cherry, Burmese Teak or American Maple. The compressive strength is most impressive.
Corner posts and door faces are selected from the original log and processed in our own mill for their unique look. Whereas the paneling that covers the honeycomb or foam bulkheads is selected for its uniformly matching grain, corner posts and other highlight area are selected purposely for their "wild" grain, adding beauty without overpowering the lovely soft hued grains of the large surfaces. These wild grains from nature are the result primarily of a period of distress in the life of the tree from which they came. Perhaps a windstorm that caused a broken limb or the competition for available sunlight in the forest. Carefully selected and placed, they are as if one chose an object of art to inspire an already beautiful lady. A fine pair of diamond earrings to frame a stunning face or the necklace that calls attention to the soft hollow of a lovely neck.
The seamless teak and holly sole covers a high pressure foam and fiberglass sandwich as opposed to wood, providing longevity, strength and dimensional stability that plywood cannot approach. In fact all bulkheads and floors in the Prowler are manufactured on large tables under enormous pressure as resin is infused in precise volume, as compared to the normal lay-up method of mops and rollers.
Fine English beveled mirrors grace doors and cabinets secured by Schwepper Germany door hardware as precise as a fine watch. Grohe Infinity faucets, showers and bath hardware are fitted to compliment the 12 coats of hand rubbed cabinetry throughout. Grohe warrants their Infinity line (their very best) forever, as the name implies.
Bilges are finished to an extraordinarily high standard, allowing no exposed fibers to be seen. In fact one could lie down in the bilge with a soft nylon shirt or trousers and find nothing in the primary or secondary molded parts to catch or snag the fabrics on.
Fire retardant fiberglass fuel tanks, fully baffled and gelcoated on the inside as well as outside are manufactured in house and pressure tested far beyond the level they will be exposed to in normal service. By gelcoating the interior of the tank, no crevices, weld joints or other areas exist for algae or other contaminants to accumulate, eventually requiring major work to exorcise from the fuel system. Should an owner unknowingly pump contaminated fuel into the single frp tank lying on the center of the boats longitudinal center of buoyancy, large stainless steel "manhole covers" are built in to allow access to the insides of the tanks, allowing complete access to the insides of the tanks to wipe them down, as clean as new.
By placing the tanks on the Longitudinal center of buoyancy, no change occurs in fore and aft trim, whether full or empty. By concentrating the heavy objects such as fuel and engines as closely as possible to this point, pitching in a violent sea is greatly reduced and trim tabs are far more effective, since they do not have to overcome the moment of inertia of tanks placed indiscriminately, or dictated by a less thoughtful building program.
