THE END RESULT

The structural rigidity of the Prowler is verified by the decision to install heavy duty, laminated and tempered top quality glass in frameless openings, as long as 120" without a single support or bracing to reinforce them. Were there to be even a fractional movement of the structure the glass would fail. Despite a punishing ride on Prowler upwind into the teeth of a 25 knot Norther for 300 miles averaging 30.2 knots for the distance, no sign of movement can be found. The first Marlow Prowler 375 to be delivered now has logged over 2000 test miles, much of what could be described as in brutal conditions without leaks, cracks or other evidence of structural movement, verifying the wisdom to employ United Ship Design and Development Center (USDDC) to certify her laminate and construction schedule. This prestigious institute normally is engaged in such highly loaded structures as high speed naval Corvettes, Frigates, Submarines and commercial ships, operated by men and women whose lives depend on the integrity of design and build.

Though the builder could take an easier path by simply installing smaller glass sections, the natural light that floods the cabin and helm area with visibility and a superb view of the world outside would be greatly diminished.

One must ask eventually a simple question of the builders. "Why?" Why not simply follow what have been the normal methods. Why invest in exotic tooling and engage in brain teasing engineering equations, when many will never know that the heart of a Prowler lies hidden beneath the beautifully finished surfaces and underlying substructure? The answer can be found in the spirit of excellence that pervades the builder and his employees. Because we want to be the best. Because we do not like the never changing view when following others. The bright and fertile minds at Marlow would not lie peaceful, secure in the knowledge that they had done their best, were any other path chosen.
